Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is based on techniques designed to treat both deep and superficial tissues, prevent and treat muscle injuries, pain and soreness. The therapist uses skilled manipulation combined with in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology to bring about pain relief.

Massage techniques are aimed at correcting and normalising the body’s soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia) and encouraging balance between the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. It also encourages the release of endorphins, the body’s own pain relieving chemicals. Remedial massage usually incorporates both Swedish and Deep Tissue massage techniques that are geared to release muscle tension and flush the muscles of metabolic wastes such as lactic acid.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy places strong demands on a woman’s body, massage not only relieves the tensions and aches caused by the extra weight and shift in the center of gravity to the body, but it reduces swelling, soothes the nervous system, acts as a tonic, reducing fatigue, and enhancing energy. Pregnancy massage is based on a blend of Swedish and Remedial massage techniques.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is typically used before, during, and after athletic events to prepare the athlete for peak performance. Sports massage relieves stress and tension that builds up in the body’s soft tissues during exercise. Overuse and overexertion may lead to minor injuries and lesions, these may be quickly and effectively remedied with massage. It is a deeper and more intense form of massage that incorporates a combination of techniques including cross-fiber friction, pressure point work, joint mobilization, compression, stretching and Swedish massage techniques.

Therapy is tailored to the individual to ensure optimum performance, injury-free training and prevent post-event injuries. Sports massage is not only suitable for athletes, it is also of great benefit to those who have physically demanding jobs or are exposed to postural stress.
